Manta day

Posted January 15, 2009

Monday was another entertaining day on the Katfish. We began with the usual small fish (red bream, black sea bream..), but all of a sudden a german tourist was hooked with something big on one of the larger rods. We soon found out it was a manta ray of about 50 kilos that took a good 30 minute fight. Meanwhile, one of the rods with live bait was also hooked with what looked like a pretty big atlantic bonito, but we finally lost it. Within minutes another manta ray, but this time smaller, something like twenty kilos; just like the other one we released it. Once again, two more atlantic bonitos on live bait, once again we loose them. A shame, but people seemed to enjoy it all the same. The final catch was (yet again) another small manta ray caught by an british kid. Shame we didn't take the camera with us.

The anecdote of the day was a huge wahoo that kept visiting us while we were anchored but it never wanted to bite. However, it's good to know they're still around, perhaps next time it will be hungrier.
